The Italian Distributor of FPC^® has announced the completion of yet another transit bus test. Circumvesuviana (CVA) operates the transit bus fleet that services the Naples, Italy area. CVA conducted mileage and emissions tests comparing the performance of four transit buses with and without FPC^® . After several months of FPC^® fuel treatment, the test fleet realized both fuel savings, and reductions in smoke and carbon monoxide emissions.

Harmful emissions reduction is paramount to the Italian transit industry, and is the focus of all tests of fuel additives. In the case of CVA, smoke was reduced 15% by the addition of FPC^® . The measured smoke reduction takes place in the carbon fraction of the particulate (smoke) emitted from diesel engines.

Even more dramatic was the reduction in carbon monoxide (CO). CO was reduced 29% when the busses were operating on FPC^® additized fuel. Engineers calculate CO emissions from the CVA fleet will be reduced by 91 metric tons each year with FPC^® treated fuel.

Both CO and smoke are formed during the later stages of combustion in a diesel engine (known as the mixing-control and end or tail of combustion stages). The FPC^® active ingredient catalyzes the reactions needed to finish the combustion of the pure carbon fraction of smoke and CO, thereby releasing more useful energy from the fuel and reducing the quantities of harmful pollutants.
